  • The History Channel recently broadcasted a new program featuring Professor Terje Leiren on November 22, 2005. The program, part of a new series called “The BIG BUILD,” asks what it takes to construct a Viking ship and presents the Viking past as an exciting “how to” project. Dr. Terje Leiren of provides historical commentary on the Viking age helping to put the project into historical context.

 

  • On November 14, 2005, University of Washington professors, Marianne Stecher-Hansen and Tiina Nunnally presented lectures at the Smithsonian on an evening celebrating Norway’s centennial and dedicated to Great Voices of Norwegian Literature.

 

  • The Scandinavian Studies department has presented several visual displays open to the public at the University of Washington's Suzallo Library. Among these the department has recently sponsored exhibits in recognition of Hans Christian Andersen and Norway’s year-long celebration of its 100 years of independence.
