As the discussion on this site shows, public scholarship is not a term that is widely incorporated into the academy. However, this does not diminish the fact that much of the scholarship that takes place within the various disciplines could be categorized as having a public scholarship component. Such projects seek to build bridges between students, faculty, and the surrounding and international communities of researchers, non-profits, and concerned citizens. Of course not all activities are the same, and scholars in various fields may approach public scholarship in ways that are most germane to the focuses of their scholarship and respective disciplines.
This page serves as a resource portal for those interested in creating and supporting public scholarship in the academy. In addition to showcasing some of the current activities across the disciplines, this page provides an opportunity to investigate some of the diverse ways that scholarship can be conceived and to engage in dialogue on the direction of public scholarship in the disciplines. By no means is this an exhaustive list of disciplines nor activities within them, and we encourage the ongoing addition of information and ideas.
